ANTI-CORRUPTION DAY CELEBRATION 2025

This Friday, July 11, 2025, Kumba I Council marked African Anti-Corruption Day under the theme, “Promoting Human Dignity in the Fight Against Corruption.
Embracing this important cause, the council adopted a powerful slogan: “Kumba I Council Says NO TO Bribery and Corruption,” reinforcing its commitment to transparency and integrity.

To commemorate this significant day, Mayor Eseme Moses Esembe took to the airwaves with a dedicated radio program aimed at sensitizing the population about the dangers of corruption.

During the broadcast, the Mayor highlighted common corrupt practices that Council service users might encounter and emphasized how citizens can report such malpractice promptly. This initiative sought to empower residents with knowledge, encouraging vigilance and active participation in combating corruption.

In a parallel effort to raise awareness, the Municipal Magistrate and his team of dedicated staff embarked on a community walk, starting from the Council premises, passing through the bustling Kumba Main Market, and extending to local parks and neighborhoods. Throughout the walk, they preached the anti-corruption message with vigor, engaging directly with business owners and residents.

The Mayor cautioned business owners to pay all taxes exclusively at the official taxation office, warning them to be wary of third parties posing as Council workers.

He also reminded those seeking vital documents, such as birth certificates, that only the Civil Status office is authorized to issue these, strongly advising against acquiring fake documents from unauthorized sources.

To enforce this fight, the Mayor has produced new badges for council workers carrying their names, phone numbers, functions for easy identification. The council premises also has a suggestion box placed st the entrance of the buildings to secretly report all malpractices .

The fight against corruption is essential for preserving human dignity and ensuring equitable development within the municipality. By fostering a culture of transparency and accountability, Kumba Council aims to build trust with its citizens and promote a fair environment where public resources are managed responsibly. The council’s proactive approach on African Anti-Corruption Day displays its dedication to safeguarding the welfare of its people and strengthening democratic governance for a brighter future.
